Kalevala Tarot - Two of Wands
By Kalervo Aaltonen & Taina Pailos

The two of stakes shows a man standing shirtless on a hill next to a raging
sea. He holds a "staff" of flames on his head, both hands upraised to
support it, while he looks at the sea. A similar staff stands on top one of
the waves. The sky is dark and stormy.
LWB: Defining goals and aims.
Reversed: Lack of clarity about goals and aims.
The staff in the sea echoes his call from shore. I don't know what he's
calling, but it answered. This is the kind of encouragement we need
sometimes, to continue. Progress seems slow, we call out for reassurance,
and it comes in a way we don't expect it. Flames from the sea? You've got
to be kidding! But there it is, and even if it is a hallucination of some
kind, if it helps us, does it matter? The twos seem to sort of be the
balance point, everything is sort of stable, matched, and it might take a
shock to break us out of the stalemate. Not as big a shock as it takes to
break a four, but still it takes a kick to get it all moving again.
A girl I work with recently bought this deck. She was very excited, her
first deck in lots of years. She brought it in to me, saying it was "Danish, or something". Turns out to be the Kalevala deck... and I was
carrying it in my bag with me. What an odd coincidence! Well, it was odd
(and kind of fun) for me.
