Inner Child Cards - Two of Wands
Isha Lerner & Mark Lerner; Christopher Guilfoid, Illustrator
Bear & Company Publishing, 1991
ISBN 0-939680-95-5

2 of Wands shows us a winged fairy kneeling at the water's edge. A white rabbit rests at her knee. The fairy leans on a rock with her right hand and hold a star-topped want in her right. Her dark hair is braided and she wears a yellow slip dress. On the surface of the clear blue water we see several lily pads with flowers gracing their center, a white swan glides along and a black bird sits on a rock near the fairy's hand. She gazes as her reflection in the water which shows her wreathed with a garland of white flowers. Her face and the star on her wand are surrounded by a halo of energy. Behind the fairy spreads out a pale green field. A cluster of branches hang above her head. In the distance we see a range of mountains.

The Book says: When we are ready for inner transformation, we come face-to-face with our true selves. Who is your true self? Are you radiant and glowing? This is a time of profound personal awareness an insight. Find a place of solitude and serenity and explore your hidden talents. Intuitive gifts strengthen you. Perhaps you can visualize your true face. As one Buddhist koan asks, "What does your original face look like?"

Bee's Buzz: I think this is a very interesting question posed by this card - what does your original face look like? The youthful suggested by the fairy is also symbolic of a time when we did know who we truly were. A time when we hadn't buried our true face beneath masks and makeup. The white rabbit and swan suggest a purity and trust. They trust this fairy not to hurt them. The fairy's pose near the water's edge also brings to mind some of the images of The Star card. And much like that card she can symbolize hope and wholeness. But she is also a symbol of untapped energy. Her youth and inexperience will soon give way to a more determined and focused energy. She is seeking this truth in her reflection. The halo surrounding her image may be a sign of the energy that she will soon incorporate into her life. She is just learning how to harness her energy and her spirit, her fire and her passion. Once she is more in control and comfortable with this energy she will learn how to put it to effective use. She is purity and energy, fire and spirit, untapped potential and honesty.
