Three of Wands: The card shows a fire burning behind three electric guitars. The guitars form a triangle and the flame burns brightly behind them but does not destroy them. The guitars float in space in front of a field full of stars. Their power cords plug into the flame.
The Book says: "This card symbolizes the power to grow and change through the power of your own will. Perhaps the elements in the card indicate a need for this kind of powerful change and growth, or the card could represent the way you are acting in a particular situation. This card is symbolic of the feeling of strength, independence and certainty we feel in our adolescence. This card indicates a kind of electrical power - a power that is noticed and cannot be ignored. It indicates a time in which creative energy is powerful and stirs you to movement - a movement that leads away from traditional slower, quieter ways of doing things."
Bee's Buzz: The Three of Wands shows the energy in our lives that initiates new projects and new ideas. It is that electrical jolt we feel when a new idea suddenly hits us. The "I could've had a V-8" feeling we sometimes get. Threes show a certain balance and the fire and electricity show the energy that propels us forward. This card shows that energy we feel when we take on a new project or suddenly get inspired to revise the old way of doing things. That click we sometimes feel when we suddenly "get" a new idea or concept that revitalizes us and reshapes our world view. I also like the way the guitars plug into the flame - reconnecting with the primal source of their passion, their inspiration and their energy. When I consider the impact electric guitars have had on the music scene, it reinforces the concept of focused energy and mastery of our inspiration. I can see Jimi Hendrix on his knees in front of a burning guitar as he exhorts it to give up its secrets. I think of Jimmy Page (who ironically enough was charged with being into the dark arts because of his interest in Uncle Aleister) whose guitar playing can certainly put me in a trance any day. They are even referred to as "guitar gods". They have learned to master their talents and their inspiration, to channel it and focus it so that we can all participate in this magic and enjoy it's embrace. They help us feel the strength of this energy and be stirred by its power. So this card is a reminder that we too can do this in our lives if we are but willing to pick up our own guitar and dedicate the time and effort needed to master its magic.
