Shining Tribe - Three of Trees
Rachael Pollack
Publisher: Llewellyn
From the book:
"Arms open to flowers. Their bark becomes faces. We welcome their visits, lay mud at their places. The web of their leaves, like delicate lace is a comfort in sorrow".
Looking at the card you see three figures that I would describe as scarecrows. They are Manitokan, which the Ojibwa people of Canada form from trees. These figures are dressed in long robes and have pointed hats. They stand in a multi colored field of grass. The central figure is the largest & oldest looking with long flowing hair and beard of yellow straw. The other two are behind and on each side of the larger center figure.
While I am studying this deck I've also started working with the Navigators. I was getting myself so confused. When I looked at this card I got a feeling of the 3 of Cups, and then just kept seeing this card as the 3 of Cups. The three people united and enjoying themselves, I then moved over to the Navigators deck and read up on the 3 of Wands in the Navigators and I was like wow, this
(Navigator) deck is way off from how I see this card. I then did a double take and realized it's the Three of Trees that has the different take. My keyword for the RWS 3 of Wands is Savvy, not what I originally saw here. By now I'm sure you are as confused as I am (lol). So let me go back to the beginning and start all over.
I get a real feeling of openness and enjoyment when looking at these 3 guys, I say guys because their noses are long and their eyes wide … well, and the beard on the middle one. The smaller ones appear more serious then the older dude. I feel like he is saying to me, "Come learn and laugh with us." It is interesting what Rachel has for the DM of this card: "Pleasure, abundance, laughter, creativity." I do feel all of this in the card, but wouldn't in a typical 3 of Wands. It does make me remember that there can be fun and happiness in stillness. Those times when I have laid beneath a tree my head cradled on a bit of the root sticking up out of the ground. The peacefulness and the happiness I felt just lying there enjoying the smell and feel of summer. Listening to the song of the wind in the branches and bird song floating here and there. It does bring a feeling of happiness and peace, making me appreciate myself, my life, and the people who are a part of it. And hey, the "Grandfather" does seem to be a savvy gentleman.
