Tarot of Mermaids - Ten of Wands
art by Mauro De Luca
published by Lo Scarabeo

Card Description: A mermaid sits in shallow water looking out to sea. She is holding ten oars in a fanlike pattern. Beside her is an open treasure chest full of gold coins.

The Little White Book says: Consequences and responsibilities; the fruit of one's own work; rewarded effort; commitment.

My musings: It seems to me that she is having difficulty keeping all those oars in place. She's holding them rather awkwardly, and if she stays in that position much longer she's going to get a bad backache. I like the treasure chest, it implies that all this hard work won't go to waste; she's being well paid for her efforts. She's looking out toward the ocean, maybe waiting for the next shift to relieve her, and then she can take her treasure and go have some fun! She has certainly earned it.
