Rock and Roll Tarot - Six of Voice
Chris Paradis

6 of the Voice symbols (an open mouth with a spiral below the teeth) rise in an arc from the bottom left to the top right corner of the orange-background card. Freddie Mercury of Queen is pictured on the card, his head thrown back and his left hand reaching toward the sky. Other faces float in the background, along with the word "champions". The explanation card reads: Sharing of fire Queen we are the champions.

MHO: Aside from the obvious connotations of the lyrics "We are the champions, my friend, and we'll keep on fighting 'til the end", I can't help but think of the fact that Freddie Mercury died of AIDS. As one of the first public figures to succumb to the disease, he is somewhat of a pioneer for the fight for AIDS research, funding, and the acceptance of those who contract the illness. In a way, that makes him a champion as well. I love the visual power and strength of this card. It is quite a tribute.

I also like the explanation: Sharing of fire. In this case, the fight is shared and therefore the victory as well. After all, the song does say that "We" are the champions.
