Fey Tarot - Six of Wands
Artwork: Mara Aghem; Concepts: Riccardo Minetti
Publisher: Lo Scarabeo
Description: Crowds gather to greet an unusual visitor. The strange Fey is obviously different from them – his hands and wings are oddly shaped, and the eyes of both the visitor and his tortoise-like mount have vertical pupils. He brings a gift, a potted plant with strange leaves / fruit.
Simple Meaning: “Herald, messenger, foreigner, bringer of news, honourable rival.”
Advanced Meaning: “A foreigner who brings a gift is not an enemy. …It is important to welcome him and try to understand him. … There is no need to be frightened beforehand.”
My take on it: This one’s a unique take on the Six of Wands. There’s no hint of the victory theme common in other decks. Instead, there is acceptance of those different from ourselves. Strangeness is to be welcomed, not feared or avoided. Meeting and greeting others gives us the opportunity to learn new things. We may like them or not, but there’s no way to know until we try.
