Quest Tarot - Nine of Wands
Creator: Joseph Ernest Martin
Publisher: Llewellyn
Description: Nine golden torches surround a setting sun over the ocean. It’s not clear if the torches are being lit by the sun or the other way around. A huge moon dwarfs the sun below it in a red sky full of stars. Five sunflower blossoms arc across the bottom of the card, and large orange flames rise from both bottom corners.
Card title: Power
Astrological association: Sun in Sagittarius
Stones: Gold Topaz, Turquoise, Garnet
Roman letter: I
I Ching: 7, The Army, Collective Force (R.L. Wing)
Faceup Meaning: Great strength. A well-fortified position. … Inner toughness. Waiting for the next fight. … Feeling the strength of support behind you.
Reversed Meaning: Having a weak personality. Being frail. Becoming sickly. … Making bad decisions. Look at the situation carefully; it may require a gentle manner.
My take on it: Wands are a fire suit in this deck, and these are about as firey as it gets. The wands burn with so much energy they’re giving off sparks. Ghost images make the wands look like they’re vibrating or perhaps spinning around the sun. The sky and water both reflect red-orange. Power indeed! This just screams of raw energy, held under tense (vibrating) control. With this kind of power and confidence you’ll be ready for whatever comes your way.
