Fey Tarot - Nine of Wands
Artwork: Mara Aghem; Concepts: Riccardo Minetti
Publisher: Lo Scarabeo
Description: Two female Fey hide inside a cave-like hollow tree. An all-green Fey hides toward the back of the hollow, while a larger one with red/purple hair peeks out around the edge of the opening. The one peeking has a quiver strapped to her back, and may be protecting the smaller one.
Simple Meaning: “Diffidence, vigilance, attention, never lower your guard, protection of those who are weaker.”
Advanced Meaning: “The best way to flee from danger is to be prudent. … this card exalts the values of perception, of attention, of the senses, of the capacity to realise things in time.”
My take on it: It’s unclear whether these Fey are hiding from real or make-believe dangers, predators or a simple game of hide and seek, but in either case they do not want to be found. The larger one is apparently responsible for both her own safety and her companion’s.
Protect yourself, but don’t assume just because the coast is clear that nothing’s lurking around the corner. Keep your eyes and ears open and be ready to fight or flee if the need arises.
