Fairy Tarot - Nine of Acorns
Artwork: Antonio Lupatelli (Major Arcana, Aces & Courts), Richard Doyle (pip cards)
Book: Helene and Doris Saltarini
Publisher: Lo Scarabeo

In the Fairy Tarot, Wands have been replaced by Acorns, and are associated with the Element of Air. Nine acorns are arranged pip-style on the upper half of the card. A little prince sits atop a huge toadstool, his back to us. He seems lost in thought, his chin propped on his hands. A ring of feminine sprites dance around the toadstool’s base.

Excerpts from the book:
“…a stagnant period, a delay. You are advised not to make plans or projects, neither long-term or short. You must wait. Even if you are burning with the desire to move, to act, don’t do it. … You are in a delicate moment and could easily, due to impatience or impulsiveness, make a wrong move which you will regret later.”

Card upright: delay in achievements; lack of incentives; incubation of an illness; prudence is advised.

Reversed: persistent delays; adverse destiny, someone is thinking about a vendetta.

My take on it:
This one’s a slight departure from most decks, defensiveness turned toward inaction. Instead of the usual wariness, extreme caution and patience are warranted. It reminds me of a combination of a Four of Cups (apathy), a little Four of Swords (inaction), and a Seven of Pentacles (patience). When all around you is frantic action, stay centered and focused. Wait until the time is right to move – but it’s not time yet.
