I have divided this post into two sections. The first section will be *directly* from Wanless's book, the "official take on the card", if you will. The next section will be my feelings on this card. Any questions, please feel free to ask.

From _Voyager, The Way of the Great Oracle_ by James Wanless: The Magician Card, pp. 55-57:

"The Magician has all the tools of transaformation and materialization...and uses them to transform...the Magician is the bolt of lightening that can strike swiftly anywhere and anytime. The word Magician is derived from the Proto-Indo-European word magh, which means "to be able, to have power."...The essence of power is the ability to "make it happen", which is symbolized by the Magician's number, One. The number one is the zero-spirit tramsformed into physical form. The Magician is able to materialize. The universal law symbolized by the Magicican is talent--your ability to create by transforming and materializing. *Make your Fool-child hopes and dreams come true**...The Magician is associated with various mythological characters, who carry a "magic" wand, such as the Egyptian Thoth and ankh, Hermes and caduceus staff, Aaron and rod, or Merlin and cystal. With their wands, symbols of wisdom and power, they are able to enlighten, awaken, and resurrect. *Use your gifts of insights to help others find their own talents.*...Magicians are sorcerers, alchemists, shamans, wizards, and medicine men...With their ability to transmute, Magicians can be tricksterish."

My take on this card:
When I hold this card, I feel a sense of energy that is directly connected with the night, or I should say, from twilight to dawn. There is magic here, but to me it is a primitive, primal energy that we all have, but may not choose to acknowledge, due to the stringent social mores of living in our material world. We can be all Magicians and transmute this energy to our own circumstances/situations, but first we must learn to recognize it, understand it, and learn how to use it in its most positive forms. The problems arise when we fall down in one of these steps and defeat our own purpose. I feel that this card is about each individual's own unique way of knowing themselves and their world and how to navigate their world in the most auspicious manner possible. This card represents the spectrum of positive/negative energies. It's how you *choose to use* the energy that counts.
