I. My own visual description of
this deck (I usually don't do this, but I *have* to share this
with you!)
II. Ms. Gendron's LWB
interpretation
III. My own interpretation
The Magus
I. My visual take: A beautiful woman dressed in
yellow-gold, the color of the sun in the traditional Magician's
pose. She has the infinity symbol over her head as well as a
waxing moon The sun radiates behind her, the same color as her
attire and upon study it appears that she literary comes from the
sun and is a projection of it. She wears a gold snake belt and
appears to wear amulets of gold and lapis lazuli. She stands under
an arch of roses. On her left side (which would be on the right
side of the card, as she is facing us) there are drops of water in
the top side that slide down into flame on the lower bottom half
of the card. On her right side (our left as she faces us) there
are clouds in a blue sky which narrow down to lush green growth
(No secret here, folks--the four elements) She wears a headdress
reminiscent of Cleopatra's, perfectly matched to her outfit. A
crow is perched on her left shoulder and her downward left hand
holds a red rose; in the palm is an egg. There is a pentacle on
this side as well. A dove sits on her altar on the right side next
to a chalice. She holds a golden wand with a rose on the end in
her upheld right arm. On her altar also is a sword and an alter
cloth. In the front of her altar is a fabulous coloful garden
filled with both tropical and traditional flowers, such as
hibiscus (five-pointed, sacred flower of Kali) and roses. The
grooviest part of all (at least to me) is the black cat that
stares unabashedly back at you (right back at ya, babe!) directly
underneath the raven on the lower front right side of the card
(the Magician's left, as she is facing us.) To me, it is a
visually stunning, emotionally moving, and thought-provoking card.
I am completely comfortable with it...at home. It harmonizes and
flows. It speaks.
II. Ms. Gendron's official
interpretation (I am quoting directly from her LWB):
The Magus
I Am That and Nothing More
Energy: (S:)Oya (Yurba);
(W): Athena, Hermes, Greek; Diana, Minerva, Roman; (N): Airmed,
Celtic: (E) Bast, Eygptian.
Planet: Mercury
Animals: cat: magic,
independence; crow: divine law; dove, peace, Holy Spirit,;
hummingbird: bliss (my eyesight tain't what it used to be; can't
find the hummingbird, but it must be there somewhere--Dawn)
Symbolism: cosmic egg:
primoridal creation; elements: earth, water, fire, air; infinity:
divine will; tools: wand, cup pentacle sword.
Meaning: Individuality. The
Magus celebrates the ability to manifest thought. The trick here
is to use the laws of manifestation wisely. Practice the art of
appropriate desire, clarity of mind, heart, purpose, and integrity
will allow for wish fulfillment. As above, so below; established
in Divinity, perform action.
End of LWB Excerpt**********
My take on this card: It's a
perfect expression of All There Is. Love it, love it, love it. The
perfect foundation on which to expand. Right thought leads to
right action. Law, love, spirit, nature. And, maybe not
surprisingly, common sense.
Hope you all enjoyed reading this
as much as I have enjoyed sharing it with you. As I share, I
learn, so I thank you for the opportunity!
