The Karma Tarot - Lovers
By Brigit Boline Erfurt

Description:
In the background is an angel facing us with a golden sky behind. In front of and below of the angel are three people, a man in the center with a women on either side. Behind the man is a cloud in a blue sky and mountains in the distance.

The man is wearing a jacket without sleeves and a pin above one pocket. A belt goes around the jacket at the waist. He is also wearing blue jeans rolled up above his ankles showing his bare feet. He has hair almost down to his shoulders, and he possibily has a mustache (it is hard to tell).

The man is looking at the women to his right but has his hand on the back of the woman to his left. The women on his right faces him and is touching his arm. She is wearing a lavender pantsuit? that is tight fitting on the top, leaves her back bare, and covers her legs like pants. From the back of her white belt hangs a red cape. She is also barefoot. Her black hair reaches all the way to the ground. She is wearing a lavender scarf over her head, tied in the back. Attached to the top of her head is three golden horns pointing upward. On her cheek is a cresent moon and on her pant leg is the feminine symbol, a cirle with a cross on the bottom.

The women to his left is dressed more elegently in a blue dress which is low cut in the front and goes all the way to the ground covering her feet. A portion of the dress is red from her belly down to between her legs, as if the blue fabric was parted to show the red underneath. This is much like in the Wise Women (Empresses) card which I'll soon be writing about. She has one hand on the red area and the other reaching out to the man. She wears a cape which is green on the outside and red inside. Her hair is brown and goes down behind her shoulders. On her cheek is a star. Her mouth is open as if speaking.

The angel has lavender clothes. His/her hands are held at shoulder level on both sides with the palms facing us. The wings are spread out behind the hands. The angel appears to wear a mask covering the eyes. The hair is green and resembles leaves.

From the LWB by Birgit Boline Erfurt:
"The lovers card depicts a moment of choice. Essentially, the young man in the card must choose between sympathy and lust, intelligence and passivity."

"The women to his right is intelligent and modern. Her lavender head- scarf symbolizes loyatly to feminism, as does the sign of Venus on her pants leg. She wants to free him, and yet life with her would not be as easy because she has rejected traditional gender roles. Her intelligence can be harsh, but she is dynamic and radiant."

"The woman on the man's left attracts him through her sensuousness and acceptance of him as he may be. She is older that the other woman and motherly in her appearance and authority. Across her cheek is a celestial body with six emanating rays. Although he will find more compassion and traditional womanliness from her, she represents a lunar force from which he must free himself if he wants to harness his own solar power. The angel, its eyes painted with triangles to denote divine knowledge, will inspire him to make the right choice. The leaves growing from its head are reassuring and nourishing. It seems that the man is more attracted to the women on his left, but the antinuclear button on his jacket denotes an inclination toward progressive thinking."

"The zodiacal sign of The Lovers is Gemini."

"Interpretations: New love affair. Conflict between desire and intellect. Rely on intuition, not authority."

"Reversed Meanings: Frustrated relationships. Wrong decision. Danger of psychic crisis. Inability to make decisions. Entwinement in earlier relationship. Resignation."

My thoughts:
Again, the images in this deck bring back memories of younger days. My antinuclear symbol, peace symbol, was on a necklace which was lost the day I recieved my draft notice! Bare feet and blue jeans, that was me for back then. Which did I pick? Let's just say that lust was a large factor. Was it the right choice? Well we're still married after all these years. Actually, she is neither of these women on the card but has qualities of both. Anyway enough personal babbling.

This card is the moment of choice, any important choice. It is the conflict between the heart and the head, between the convient and the challanging, ... Let's just hope that at the important times in our lives that we have an angel or spirit who knows what they are doing and that we listen to them.
