The High Priest is the counterpart
of the High Priestess. As Aries is the house of Mars and
exaltation of the Sun, so Taurus is the house of Venus and
exaltation of the Moon. He is the reflective and mystical aspect
of the masculine. He is the thinker as the Emperor is the doer.
His colors unlike those of the Emperor, vary considerably. Red,
orange, maroon, deep brown, and chestnut brown suggest deep
thought, interior power, endurance, contemplation and This card
frequently indicates the hidden guardianship of the Masters.
What I see looking at this card.
The first thing that catches my eye on this figure is the full
beard and moustache. As the beard lengthens down his chest it
becomes increasingly grey to almost white at the tips. The beard;
whether a intentional highlight or not is usually where my eyes
settle first, it it give the figure mystical personality. In his
right hand he holds what can best be described as a Shepard's
Crook, and the left hand balances a only partially inscrolled
document. The writing on this is only a suggestion and not
readable. He wears a three tiered crown, a red robe with a red and
yellow brocade trim. His throne like seat is plain except for the
carving of a bull's head on the armrest on each side.
