Whimsical Tarot - Four of Rods
by Dorothy Morrison, illus. Mary Hanson-Roberts
Publisher: US Games Systems, Inc.

Scene: A fairy tale castle

Two bluebirds of happiness fly over an enchanted castle, a floral garland between them. Two of the towers already have garlands around them. The castle and grounds are well kept and being made ready for a celebration. The outer walls are solid stone, and inner towers are topped with bright red. A river runs nearby, with brightly flowered hills on the far side.

Like the rest of the Rods in this deck, the card border features vines in autumn colors.

LWB: A happy home; beauty, harmony.

Book Excerpts:
“The peace and happiness you’ve dreamed of is now waiting for you. All you have to do is open the door and walk in. … Gone are the days of worry and stress. … Fill your life to the brim with tender loving care, and it will always be the sanctuary you desire and deserve.”

My take on it:
There are two kinds of castles in fairy tales, either dark and foreboding or bright and enchanted. This is definitely one of the latter, the perfect home for a little girl’s dream princess. This is the point where she marries the handsome prince and goes off to live happily ever after, to a magical castle just like this. The gates are wide open, inviting to both residents and visitors. It’s built solid and secure, but stability doesn’t necessarily have to be boring. More than a physical home, this is a place the spirit can feel at home as well.
