Inner Child Cards - Four of Wands
Isha Lerner & Mark Lerner; Christopher Guilfoid, Illustrator
Bear & Company Publishing, 1991
ISBN 0-939680-95-5

4 of Wands shows four winged fairies at work in a small garden plot. They each wear a sun hat decorated with a wreath of leaves. The tools they need are scattered on the ground around them. The plot of dirt is brown and awaiting the arrival of seeds or plants. Surrounding the plot is a yard of thick spring green grass. Bushes bursting with color and blooming with life take up one part of the yard. A wooden fence stretches across the property. And two slim trees provide shade in another corner. You can barely see the faces of the gardeners because they are so focused and intent on their work.

The Book says: This card depicts the planting of new wisdom and the reconstruction of an intuitive foundation. The fairies pictured in this card represent springtime, when new planting takes place and a new season of Sun and sprouting awaits. In your life, new ideas area seeding themselves. Prepare your life for the fruits that you will bear. Plant your creativity and watch it grow.

Bee's Buzz: A card of work and play, how interesting is that. While all 4 fairies are focused on their tasks they seem exude a sense of camaraderie, of happiness and serenity at being in each other's company. They are industriously working at their tasks and seem to be content with the company. Each focuses on their own task but they are combining their efforts to create a beautiful and vibrant whole. The card is enchanting and colorful. It reminds me of how fun it is to watch children at play. All their energy and all the knowledge they've gained so far gets put to work as they create castles, art projects, space ships or other imaginary scenes to enact and worlds to conquer. Their imagination is such a powerful tool and allows them to envision all manner of possibilities and potential scenarios. It is a joy to watch. In fact this image reminds me of the kind of photo a proud parent would take of their offspring playing with friends in the backyard - capturing a moment of industriousness and creativity. It shows children exploring their individuality while learning how to combine forces at the same time. This might a lesson we could all benefit from a refresher course in.
