The Fool kneels on a promontory in
awe of a vision of the Holy Grail. He is surrounded by a storm
swept, dark landscape, dressed in the brown robes of a pilgrim, a
staff upraised in his hand and a white flower and red feather in
his hat. An angel stands behind him, Her hand on his shoulder. She
has led him to and granted him this Divine vision. A black cat
appears to play at his feet, perhaps captivated by the birds
swooping near the promontory. The card also contains the number 0,
the upward pointing triangle with a horizontal line through its
center (symbol for Air), the Hebrew letter Aleph, and a symbol
possibly representing either the astrological sign for Taurus or
the ox (a symbol associated with this card). A drawing of the
Kabalistic Tree of Life may be found in the lower right hand
corner of the card.
This card is a reminder that the
fulfillment of each vision or desire is the beginning of yet
another journey, and also that we need not travel alone. By
embodying innocence and faith we will be guided safely through
darkness and peril, but to do this requires relinquishing control
and allowing the Divine to grant us insight.
From the LWB:
"The Fool is represented by a young
man. He kneels in awe at the sight of the Grail. An angel guides
him on his way. A black cat instinctively senses danger, in
contrast to the Fool, who is fearless.
Divinatory Meaning: Having trust in
life. New beginnings. Faith. Optimism. Always follow your own
instinctive nature."
