Background

FREYA:- golden haired, blue eyed goddess of beauty, love and lovers; Wife of Odin- twin sister of Frey; daughter of Biord & Nerthus. Leader of the Valkyrs, choosers of the slain; the Valkyrs transported half of the slain to her hall [Sessrymnir – the many seated], in the realms of Folksvang – the dead tended to by wives, & women who had died before marriage.

FREYA:- had many followers among followers amongst women – some woman went into battle with their husbands, - believing that if they died together, they would go to Freya’s hall and be together forever.

FREYA:- is the personification of the earth - can give and take away. -fruitfulness & receptiveness – could take ‘the shape of a bird’ ; at times travelled in a chariot drawn by two cats. The cats & the swallow were animals sacred to her.

FREYA:- pictured wearing the gold and green colours of the harvest; behind, the ears of wheat bend in the breeze. Swallows fly in the warming sunlight. The cat sits contentedly. Dressed in the accoutrements of the Valkyrs, holds shaft of a spear in the hand."

Response
Light blue sky, white clouds, (The book says gold and green but) but this color blind bloke sees ochre[?] to faded brown in her dress and regalia. This shows FREYA is a warrior; yet, there is no apparent hostility or harshness depicted.

She carries the wand [enterprise, distinction, actions & achievements] and a shield [Money, property, & possessions] and I would use these attributes in relation to the adjoining cards in reading a draw, spread. The Winged Helmet must have some significance that I have yet to discover – any offers of assistance here?

The birds are the link between heaven and earth; I’m also sure that the cat has a deeper meaning than is evident to me at this point in time. I get the feeling of security with knowledge; awareness with intelligence when I look at this card.
