Navigators of the Mystic Sea Tarot - Emperor

The top of this card says "propulsion". Being a space "nut", to me this means "power", and this card seems to have plenty of power. The emperor on this card is retrieving a boomerang, while at the same time straddling the leash of a cheetah who is intent upon running. The emperor holds the leash with one finger and basically looks to be perfectly at ease juggling several things at one time. This card exudes masculinity and confidence. A lot of the cards in this deck have a rather androgeneous tone, but the emperor is all male. There is even a cock on the card holding a key in it's beak, while scratching at some corn in a basket which has been overturned by the exuberant cheetah. The emperor's body is red, which is a power color. In the background there is a general on a horse standing by a dragonlike fountain which is spouting out "red" water. In actuality, blue and brown take up more space on this card... but the red (and yellow of the cheetah) are what you notice first. This shows that the emperor draws attention, no matter where he is. He also wears a green hat in the shape of a ram with horns. More maleness! There is a city in the background, and lots of geometric shapes here, but at the bottom of the card a rosebush is growing. You almost miss it under the paws of the leaping cheetah and behind the rooster. But it seems to be holding its own.

From the book:
"
Emperor constituting intelligience - Yod/hand/sperm

Aries - Sun of the Morning

seventeenth passage

Key Words: propulsion, intention, inspection, sincerity, competition, restraint

The ram that stands defying planet Mars, has three stars only which are obvious. First point of Aries - navigation's fix begins an ever-growing impetus. The ocean of all common potential - renewing streams of clarity - it wends toward experience, which flowers forth, a separate source of individual trends.

Containing impatient currents, whirlpools spin. They must be channeled to discreet intent, gifting your life and energy thereof. Your strategy must clearly represent, formation of a clear and forceful plan. Learn to relax - complete the tasks you set. Checking bravado, share abroad your warmth, uphold commitments and have no regret.

Mingled with earth, the dragon's blood will mold an army at the patriarch's command. Above, the looping boomerang returns from whence it came - back to the Emperor's hand. As he, with studied ease, restrains his pet, nearby a rooster's scratching. Now, the key held in the cockeral's beak will fit the door, unlocking the secret of his Majesty."

Julia goes on to explain that the structure in the background is the symbol for sulpher, which in the Middle Ages was believed to be the male generative process. The boomerang is the equivalent of Zeus' thunderbolts. The fact that it always returns, represents renewal. They key may be a task waiting to be performed for which a solution must be discovered.

One thing I completely missed seeing on this card is the computer screen which is by the front paws of the cheetah. This reminds us that we must carefully screen our thoughts and emotions.

Also, the figure in the fountain area shooting at the army figures, symbolises David shooting down Goliath with a slingshot. "David is the proliferation of forms who destroys the malefic aspect of the Devil by implanting in it the principle of the third eye - the stone which hit Goliath in the center of his forehead."

As always, there's a lot to consider in this card.
