The bottom of the card shows farm fields stretching back into hills or small mountains. There is a stream that runs from the front of the card back to hills. The sky takes up most of this card, 2/3 of it. In the blue sky there is a cloud formation that has a face. From the circler mouth opening is blowing wind carrying 8 branches up and around into the sky.
I know that communication is a part of the traditional 8oW's, I just have never felt it. This card makes me feel the communication aspect of this card. I guess because the branches are being blow out from the cloud mouth. One of the reasons I love working with different decks is to see the different portrayals of a card. This one confirms the traditional meaning of the card by showing, for me at least that this is going to be something that comes from someone's mouth, or words that could be spoken. Your marching orders are on their way. What ever you've been waiting to hear about, an answer is on its way.
Book DM: "The eight of wands combines the speed of air, the courage of fire, and eventually, when the wands come to ground, the groundedness of earth. Speed, action, and movement are indicated in the eight of wands. Life will be speeding up and new activities, letters, or engagements may enter your life now. Sometimes travel is imminent, either physically or mentally.”
